The General Assemblies are intended for
  1. members of the International Astronomical Union, researchers with PhD degree or equivalent, or with a recognized expertise in any astronomical field, active in astronomy, who are listed in the IAU Member Directory,
  2. non-members of the International Astronomical Union, researchers and students active in astronomy, invited by IAU for presentation of their contributed works.
Invitations to professional astronomers who are not IAU-member to attend GA2009 will be issued by the IAU General Secretary, with copies to the Brazilian NOC of GA2009. Requests for invitation to GA2009 should be directed to the chairperson or secretary of the National Committee for Astronomy in the country of residence (please consult the List of National Committees for Astronomy), or to the chairperson of the SOC of one of the GA2009 Symposia, Joint Discussions and Special Sessions (see the future IAU Meetings). These chairpersons will forward the invitation requests with their recommendations to the IAU Secretariat.

The access to the Convention Center during a GA is permitted only to registered participants and registered guests. Every participant, without exception, must be fully registered (that is, must fill in the forms, pay the registration fees and be approved as a participant). Including those that, eventually, receive support from the event organizers (directly from IAU, as, eg. travel grants, or in any other way), must pay the registration fee.

There will be no simultaneous translation in the talks, in general.

If a student (or any other non-member from IAU) plans to participate, he/she must follow all the normal procedures, as any other participant:
  • to submit a work (poster or oral presentation) to any of the events listed in the scientific program, by using the procedure offered for abstract submission;
  • to make the registration, filling the forms and paying the registration fee.

The registration for participating of the XXVII General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union, to happen August 03-14, 2009, in Rio de janeiro, Brazil, is opened since November 1st, 2008, together with the registration procedures, that can be done on-site, while the event happens.

We present a list of registered participants, updated nearly at the end of every business day in Brazil.

Travel grant applications could be submitted through our link Travel Grants and abstract submission for the different meetings and events, happening simultaneously with the XXVII General Assembly, could be done at our Abstract Server.

The General Assembly is intended for IAU members, but non-members are allowed to participate, after specific invitation of the International Astronomical Union. Please read carefully the instructions given at the beginning of the registration form.

If you are from one of the countries for which is necessary an entry permit, you'll need another invitation letter, in order to obtain a VISA. Please check for more information in our link Visa Information.
