1- Second visit of IAU's Executive Committee, August, 2007

Posted July 07, 2007

From August, 21th to 24th, 2007, the IAU Executive Commmitte, represented by the IAU President, Dr. Catherine J. Cesarsky, the President-Elect, Dr. Robert Williams, the General Secretary, Dr. Karel A. van der Hucht, and the head of IAU's secretariat, Ms. Monique Orine, will visit Rio and meet with the National Organizing Committee, NOC, as part of the continuing preparations of the XXVII General Assembly.

On the opportunity, we'll perform a new inspection of the refurbished convention center RioCentro, while hosting another scientific meeting of similar proportions of IAU's XXVII GA (the 13th International Congress of Imumunology), promoted by JZ Congressos, the same promoter of the XXVII IAU's GA. Similarly, a visit is scheduled to the recently built convention center CidadeNova, in order to make final inspection and decisions regarding installations and logistics. The time of the year matches almost precisely the one when the XXVII GA will be held and the weather is, very probably, similar to the one the participants will experiment in 2009.

The first visit of the IAU's Executive Committee happened from September, 20th to 21th, 2006, when Dr. Oddbjørn Engvold (the former General Secretary), Dr. Karel A. van der Hucht (at that time the Assistant General Secretary), and Dr. Catherine J. Cesarsky (then, the President-Elect) visited Rio for the first meetings and arrangements with the NOC.
